I am a University of Tulsa student currently studying psychology and anthropology for my undergraduate degree. In making this profile for my Game Design Concepts course I want to use the ideas and experience I have gained through my major courses to create games that speak to people.
The best way to get ideas across to people is to make them feel something and I believe that games should being doing just this. This being said, I want to make games that make people think. I personally, love horror and thriller games (and movies) and, ideally, I would love to be able to develop games that immerse players into situations that these movies are so famous for. But for right now being able to make anything that people would sit down and enjoy would be amazing.
Things that I want to change about the gaming industry would include closing that gendered divide that some people just can't seem to get over. Even though there is statistical evidence to support that males and females play different games a majority of the time, there are people from both groups who cross over into the opposite genres. Additionally, the stigma that surrounds being new at a game is something that has always puzzled me. Why are the people who are just beginning a game being criticized for doing so by the people who were once in their shoes? Gaming shouldn't have a gender or skill level; it should be a huge accepting community that is encouraging to anyone and everyone who enjoys the experience of any game.
